Apple released iOS 26.5 (build 23F77) on May 11, 2026, alongside iPadOS 26.5, macOS 26.5, watchOS 26.5, tvOS 26.5 and visionOS 26.5. On the same day, Apple published security updates for older iPhones: iOS 18.7.9, iOS 16.7.16 and iOS 15.8.8 (see why Apple still updates older iPhones).

Compatible iPhones
- iPhone 11 series and later, including iPhone 16e, iPhone 17 series and iPhone Air
- iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation)
iPhone XS, XS Max and XR cannot run iOS 26; they stay on iOS 18.
Can you still install iOS 26.5?
No. After iOS 26.5, Apple released 26.5.2, 26.6, 26.6.1 and 26.6.2, then iOS 27 on September 14, 2026. Each time, Apple stopped signing the older build. On the iPhone 11 page, for example, every iOS 26 build is now marked unsigned, and only iOS 27.0 (24A437) and 27.0.1 (24A446) are signed.
If you try to restore iOS 26.5 with Finder or the Apple Devices app, you will get an error saying the device is not eligible for this build. No program can bypass this on these iPhones.
What to install instead
- Already on iOS 27: install iOS 27.0.1.
- Still on iOS 26 and want to stay: install iOS 26.7.1 from Settings > General > Software Update. It is only available over the air and fixes an actively exploited vulnerability.
- Undecided? Read iOS 26.7.1 or iOS 27.
