About getIPSW
Last updated October 3, 2026
getIPSW is an independent reference site for Apple device software. It helps iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV and Apple Watch owners find the right firmware for their exact model, check whether Apple still allows it to be installed, and understand how to restore or update a device without losing data.
The site is maintained from Cameroon. Many of our users have older iPhones, slow connections or no access to an Apple Store, so we focus on clear, practical information that works in real-world conditions.
What you can do on getIPSW
- Find firmware for your exact device. Every iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV and Apple Watch has its own page listing the IPSW and OTA builds Apple has released for it, with build numbers, release dates and file sizes.
- Check signing status. Apple only lets you install firmware it is still "signing". Our Signing Status tool shows which versions can be installed today, so you do not waste hours downloading a file that will be refused.
- Identify your model. The Identifier Lookup and Max OS Version tools translate model identifiers such as iPhone12,1 into a device name and tell you the newest iOS version it supports.
- Follow beta releases. The Beta section tracks pre-release builds published by Apple for developers and public testers.
- Compare device specifications in the Specs section.
- Learn step by step. Our guides explain how to restore an iPhone with an IPSW file, how to fix common restore errors, and how to troubleshoot problems such as charging, Bluetooth or Face ID issues.
Where the files come from
Firmware download links on getIPSW point directly to Apple's own servers (for example updates.cdn-apple.com). We do not host or alter Apple firmware. Release information is collected automatically from public sources, including the ipswdl.com API, and refreshed several times a day.
Because data is gathered automatically, errors can occasionally appear. If you notice a wrong build, a broken link or an incorrect signing status, please tell us and we will correct it.
Important
getIPSW is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, authorized by or endorsed by Apple Inc. iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, Apple Watch, iOS and iPadOS are trademarks of Apple Inc. Always back up your device before restoring or updating it.
