How to Take a Full-Page (Scrolling) Screenshot on iPhone
Capture a whole web page, a long conversation or a document in one screenshot. Here is the built-in full-page method, how to save it as PDF, and tricks for apps that do not support it.
A normal screenshot only captures what is visible. For a long article, a receipt, a recipe or a conversation, you need a full-page screenshot. iPhone has one built in, but many people never find it.
Take a screenshot
- iPhone with Face ID: press the Side button and Volume Up at the same time.
- iPhone with Home button: press the Side (or Top) button and the Home button.
- No buttons? Use Back Tap: Back Tap guide.
Turn it into a full-page screenshot
- Right after taking the screenshot, tap the thumbnail in the bottom-left corner.
- At the top, tap Full Page (available in Safari, Mail, Notes, Pages, Numbers, Keynote and many apps that use standard pages).
- Use the slider on the right to preview the whole page.
- Tap Done, then Save PDF to Files. On recent iOS versions you can also save it as an image in Photos.
Crop the full page
Before saving, tap the crop tool to keep only the part you need, for example just the article without comments.
Apps without "Full Page" (WhatsApp, Instagram, banking apps)
- Take several screenshots while scrolling, then combine them with a free app that stitches screenshots ("screenshot stitch" apps in the App Store, such as Picsew or Tailor).
- For a WhatsApp chat, Export Chat (in the chat info) produces a complete text file, which is often better than screenshots.
- Some banking apps block screenshots for security; use the app's "share" or "download receipt" function instead.
Record the screen instead
For a tutorial or a bug report, a screen recording is clearer: screen record with sound.
Find and share
- Images: Photos > Albums > Screenshots.
- PDFs: Files > On My iPhone or iCloud Drive.
- Copy the text from a screenshot with Live Text: copy text from a photo.
