Apple HomeView, HomePod mini 2 and New Apple TV 4K: What to Expect on October 13
Apple's 'Welcome Home' launch on October 13 should introduce a smart home display, a second-generation HomePod mini and a new Apple TV 4K. Here are the expected features and what they change.
Apple has confirmed a product launch on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, in the form of press releases, with hands-on sessions for selected media in New York. Reports point to a focus on the smart home. Here is what is expected; final details will be confirmed by Apple.
HomeView: Apple's smart home display
- A square display (reports mention 6 or 7 inches) for a counter or a wall.
- Controls HomeKit and Matter accessories, makes FaceTime calls, sends intercom messages, plays audio and shows photo slideshows.
- Expected with the new Siri AI, an A18 chip or newer, and a front camera.
It would compete with Google's and Amazon's smart displays, with Apple's focus on privacy.
HomePod mini (2nd generation)
- Newer chip and improved sound.
- Apple's N1 wireless chip with Wi-Fi 7.
- Second-generation Ultra Wideband for better handoff from iPhone.
- Siri AI support and new colors.
New Apple TV 4K
- A new chip (likely A19 class) and 12 GB of RAM, up from 8 GB, useful for Siri AI and games.
- N1 chip with Wi-Fi 7.
- Updated Siri Remote.
Should you wait before buying?
If you were about to buy an Apple TV or a HomePod mini, wait a few days: the new models should arrive at similar prices, and the previous ones may be discounted.
Software: tvOS 27 and audioOS
The new devices will run tvOS 27 and HomePod software 27 builds. Current Apple TV owners can already try the beta: install the tvOS 27 beta. Firmware listings: Apple TV firmware.
Prepare your home
- Update your iPhone to the latest iOS: iOS 27.0.1.
- Upgrade the Home app architecture if your Home app asks you to.
- Check that your router supports modern Wi-Fi; Wi-Fi 7 devices still work on older routers, just without the extra speed.
