How to Check Your iPhone Battery Cycle Count and Health (Every Model)

iPhone 15 and later show the battery cycle count in Settings. On older iPhones, you can still find it with analytics data or a computer. Here is how, and what the numbers mean.

Two numbers describe your battery's condition: maximum capacity (how much charge it can still hold compared to new) and cycle count (how many full charges it has done). They are essential before buying a used iPhone or deciding on a battery replacement.

Maximum capacity (all iPhones)

Settings > Battery > Battery Health (or Battery Health & Charging). Above 80% is normal; below 80%, Apple considers the battery worn.

Cycle count on iPhone 15 and later

Open Settings > General > About. Scroll to Battery: you see the Cycle Count, the Manufacture Date and the First Use date. On some versions, the same information is also in Settings > Battery > Battery Health.

Cycle count on older iPhones

  1. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements and make sure Share iPhone Analytics is on (data is generated daily).
  2. Open Analytics Data and find the latest file starting with Analytics- (with today's or yesterday's date).
  3. Open it, tap the share icon and copy the text into Notes, then search for last_value_CycleCount. The number after it is the cycle count.

Alternative: connect the iPhone to a Mac or PC and use a battery information tool such as coconutBattery (Mac) or 3uTools (Windows), with caution and only from official websites.

What the numbers mean

CyclesInterpretation
0 to 50New or almost new
300 to 500Normal for one to two years of use
800+Heavily used; capacity probably near 80%

Apple designs recent iPhone batteries to keep about 80% capacity after around 1,000 cycles (500 on older models), in ideal conditions.

Before buying a used iPhone

A "like new" iPhone with hundreds of cycles is not new. Full checklist: used iPhone checklist and new or refurbished?

Slow the wear

The 80% charge limit, avoiding heat and using a quality charger make the biggest difference.
