How to Get the New Siri AI on iOS 27: Waitlist, Requirements and Daily Limits
The new AI-powered Siri is the headline feature of iOS 27, but it is not on by default. Here is how to join the waitlist, which iPhones and countries qualify, and how the daily limits work.
The redesigned, AI-powered Siri is the biggest change in iOS 27. Many people installed iOS 27 on September 14, 2026 and were surprised to find the same old Siri. That is normal: the new Siri requires a compatible device, a supported language and region, and a spot on Apple's waitlist.
What the new Siri can do
- Understand natural, imperfect sentences and follow-up questions.
- Use your personal context (messages, emails, calendar) to answer questions like "When does my mother's flight land?"
- See what is on your screen and act on it ("Add this address to her contact").
- Perform actions inside apps, and answer general knowledge questions.
- Keep a conversation history you can reopen on your other Apple devices.
Requirements
Device
- iPhone: iPhone 15 Pro or 15 Pro Max, any iPhone 16, 17 or 18 model, iPhone Air.
- iPad: an iPad with an M4 chip or newer and at least 12 GB of memory, according to reports at launch.
- Mac: a Mac with an M3 chip or newer and at least 12 GB of memory, running macOS 27 Golden Gate.
- Apple Watch: Series 9 or later, Ultra 2 or later or SE 3, paired with a compatible iPhone.

Language and region
- At launch, the iPhone and Siri language must be set to English.
- French, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese and Korean are coming with iOS 27.2 in October. See iOS 27.2 features.
- The new Siri is not available in the European Union or China at launch.
How to join the waitlist
- Update to the latest version: iOS 27.0.1.
- Open Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri.
- Make sure Apple Intelligence is turned on, then request access to the new Siri.
- Keep the iPhone connected to Wi-Fi and power. The models download in the background and need several gigabytes of free space.
- Wait for the notification. During the beta, some users waited up to a week.
Daily limits and the paid tier
Because the new Siri relies partly on cloud models, Apple applies daily usage limits. When you reach a limit, the advanced feature stops working until the next day, and Siri falls back to basic answers. Apple has not published the exact numbers.
Users with most iCloud+ plans, and Apple One bundles, receive higher daily allowances. Reports suggest the cheapest iCloud+ plan may not qualify. If you mainly use Siri for timers, calls and messages, the free allowance is unlikely to be a problem.
Privacy
Most requests are processed on the iPhone. Heavier requests go to Apple's Private Cloud Compute servers, which are designed not to store your data. Reports indicate that some of the underlying models were developed with Google, but requests are handled through Apple's infrastructure. See Apple Intelligence explained.
Siri AI does not appear? Checklist
- Compatible iPhone? (15 Pro or newer)
- iPhone and Siri language set to English (for now)?
- Region outside the EU and China?
- Enough free storage (several GB)?
- Waitlist request sent and accepted?
