iOS 27 Problems and Fixes: Battery, Face ID, Keyboard Lag and More
The most common iOS 27 problems reported since September 14, 2026, which ones iOS 27.0.1 fixed, and step-by-step fixes for the rest.
Every major iOS release comes with its share of bugs, and iOS 27 is no exception. Here are the problems most often reported since its release on September 14, 2026, and what to do about each one.
First: install iOS 27.0.1
iOS 27.0.1, released on September 28, fixed three issues: random restarts on iPhone 18 Pro when Face ID fails, a color artifact in 2x zoom photos on iPhone 18 Pro, and a touchscreen that stopped responding after opening Notification Center and Control Center together. Details and download links: iOS 27.0.1 IPSW.
Battery drains quickly
Cause: mostly temporary. After a major update, the iPhone re-indexes photos, messages and files and downloads Apple Intelligence models.
Fix: wait three to five days with the iPhone charging overnight on Wi-Fi, then check Settings > Battery for an app using too much power. More tips: battery draining fast.
iPhone runs hot
Same cause as above: background processing. If heat continues after a week, see iPhone overheating.
Face ID fails or the iPhone restarts
On iPhone 18 Pro, install iOS 27.0.1. On other models, reset Face ID in Settings > Face ID & Passcode and set it up again. Full guide: Face ID not working.
Keyboard lag
- Restart the iPhone.
- Turn off keyboard haptics in Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Keyboard Feedback.
- If it continues, Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Keyboard Dictionary.
Home Screen stutters
Some users see lag with tinted or clear icons and Liquid Glass effects. Switch back to default icons (touch and hold the Home Screen, Edit > Customize), and try Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Reduce Transparency.
Blank Home Screen folders
A restart usually brings the icons back.
Auto-Brightness behaves strangely
Turn Auto-Brightness off and on again in Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size, or restart.
Apps freeze or show a black screen
- Close the app from the app switcher.
- Update it in the App Store; many apps released iOS 27 updates in late September.
- Delete and reinstall it if needed.
No cellular service or weak signal
Toggle Airplane Mode, restart, check for a carrier settings update in Settings > General > About, and contact your carrier if it persists.
CarPlay disconnects
In Settings > General > CarPlay, select your car, tap Forget This Car, and connect again.
Widgets and Focus modes misbehave
- Remove the widget and add it again.
- If a Focus mode does not end on schedule, delete the schedule and create it again.
Nothing works? Clean restore
A fresh installation of iOS 27 often fixes problems that an update created. Back up first, then follow how to restore an iPhone with an IPSW file. Remember that going back to iOS 26 is no longer possible: why.
